I didn't realize how time had gotten away from me. Life in my world has been really busy, some of which has been beyond my control. I'm not going to make any promises I can't keep, but I hope to try and do better.

I am still doing sublimation and photography. I had several requests for sublimated Christmas ornaments during the holidays, as well as several orders for shirts with special vinyl designs. It's sad to think that everyone's lives have been turned up-side-down and to know that things will probably never be back to like it was at the beginning of the year. And at the present time there doesn't seem to be an end in site.

2020 was hard on conventions of all kinds. There are 2 annual pop culture conventions I attend each year: Lexington ComicCon in the spring and ScareFest in the fall. However, this year the coronavirus caused the ComicCon to be rescheduled twice then completely canceled. Then in August it was announced that ScareFest had to be canceled because of the convention center it was to be held at was no where near completion due to said virus.

Like most places, school was very much affected. The started date for our local school district was delayed, then the school system came up with a "hybrid" schedule with parents being given the choice of either sending the kids in-person 2 days a week or letting them do virtual classes. My daughter chose to send the boys in-person. Then on September 28, kids were allowed to attend full-time. For those who homeschool full-time, I have admire and respect you very much; I have no idea how you do it, much less have the patience for it. The husband and I babysit the grandkids and had to help with their NTI work and it was a pain to get the kids to do it.

And to the families who have lost loved ones to this virus, I am so sorry. My family, so far, has not been affected by it and I am thankful. I pray each night for those suffering from all illnesses, their families and the caretakers who look after them.

Each of us should pray that this virus ends soon so that our lives can get back to some type of normalcy soon. I can only imagine what this year has done to those who are suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental issues. Hang in there, please...there are people like myself who are praying for you daily. Please seek help if you need it.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6205393584479447132.post-45269688760700337802020-08-09T17:30:00.002-07:002020-08-10T04:07:25.433-07:00ScareFest CyberCon...

2020
has really played havoc on conventions of all kinds, with most having to
cancel this year. One convention I try to attend each March had to
postpone twice this year, then ultimately had to completely cancel
altogether. These cancellations can be hard on vendors who depend on
conventions for a big portion of their income. This is one of the many
advantages of a virtual convention. Plus, convention goes can still get
their convention "fix" by interacting online with both their favorite
stars and the vendors.

On Saturday, August 29, 2020, ScareFest
will launch its inaugural virtual convention, CyberCon with more dates
planned in the future. CyberCon will start at 12 noon and last until 7
p.m. Not only will there be super guest stars, but awesome vendors and
artists, Q&As and other panels and a virtual ghost hunt with none
other than Patti Starr, the founder of ScareFest.

Some of the guest stars include Kristina Klebe (Halloween, Hellboy), Lar Park-Lincoln (Friday the 13th Part 7) and Paul T. Taylor (Hellraiser Judgment).
Vendors include The Phoenix Quill and Izzy's Little Creatures. Some of
the speakers are Richard Estep, John & Stacy Edwards and Kyl Cobb.
Terrance Muncy and Eric Puckett are among the artists attending.

Tickets are on sale for $5 each at ScareFest.AntFarm.tv. As everyone is aware, the coronavirus is playing havoc on the world right now. Some countries, businesses and people are suffering the consequences more than others. The panic it has created has caused people to swamp stores buying up all the essentials they can find as though the world was coming to an end an hour from now. There are others who are buying up everything so that they can make a profit off the less fortunate. Then there are those who are physically fighting over stuff. Get a grip, people! I hear stories on FaceBook and the news of people who desperately need just the essentials not being able to find anything because of the above mentioned people.

We need to relax, take a deep breath and not worry so much. If you are a Christian like I am, you know the Bible says to not worry about anything...to leave it all up to the Lord. What good is worrying going to do you anyway? Am I worried? No. Am I concerned? Yes. I am lucky enough to have my mom still with me; she will be celebrating her 92nd birthday at the end of this month and I don't want her to get sick.

Please be kind to others. If you have plenty of essentials, consider sharing them with those less fortunate you are. That's the right thing to do! Follow all the guidelines the CDC and other health services are asking us to follow. Also, support the small businesses in your area. They could very well have to permanently close their doors because of this. There are people out there who may wind up losing their jobs if this happens. A lot of them have families to take care of.

BE A GOOD PERSON, please!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Do you love "pop culture" conventions? Do you love horror/thriller movies? Have you ever considered volunteering to work a convention? If you answer yes to any of these questions, why not consider volunteering to work the ScareFest convention, to be held the weekend of October 23-25, 2020, at the Central Bank Center, located in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. They are looking for people to work in several areas, such as the street team, stars row, vendor check-in, information booth, media checking, photography (just to name a few). So far guest announcements include Tony Todd (Candyman), Clive Barker (a<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">ward winning author, actor, producer, director and visual artist), Barbie Wilde (b<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">est known as the female cenobite in Hellbound:HellraiserII), Nicholas Vince (<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">known for his role as the chatterer cenobite in Clive Barker’s Hellraiser and Hellbound:Hellraiser I) and Kane Hodder (<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">best known for his legendary portrayal of Jason Voorhees in Friday the
13th VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes
Manhattan, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday and Jason X) and the cast from The Blair Witch Project. For more information, go to https://thescarefest.com/volunteers/, and you can see in detail what is expected and the perks for volunteering. You can also fill out the application while there.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">FYI...ScareFest is the premier convention for all things horror and paranormal. The convention, founded in 2008 in Lexington, Kentucky, is an annual convention bridging both the horror and paranormal genres with people coming from all over the world to meet some of their favorite actors, writers and stars of their favorite movies and tv shows. This event, run by fans for fans, loves to promote the independent filmmakers by showcasing their work.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you have never been but love the idea of getting to meet some of your "heroes" from the realm of horror and/or paranormal, we would love to have you attend.
Two years ago today I was in the hospital having a life-changing
surgery...gastric sleeve. Though I've not lost all the weight I had
hoped to lose, I DO NOT regret having it. I must admit that I did get somewhat burnt out on my food choices...I'll be the first to admit I'm a picky eater. This lifestyle may be easy for some people, but not for others. When having to decide whether or not to have any type of gastric surgery, one must remember that this is for the rest of your life. This type of lifestyle CAN BE maintained if you want it bad enough, and I want it bad enough.

I need to get about 20 more pounds off then my surgeon will hopefully approve me for skin removal. It's so embarrassing to have this loose skin and the health issues it can cause. However, I am determined to get the weight off, hopefully ASAP.

The goal for this year is to
work on that remaining weight. I've got a partner now (my daughter), who though she
didn't have the surgery, she's working on getting some weight off too. My biggest drawback is I absolutely HATE to exercise, but I know I'm gonna have to if I am to succeed. My daughter works during the day and has 2 little boys, so our getting together will be hard to set in stone...it will have to be whenever we can.

If you are considering some type of weight lose surgery, don't let anyone talk you out of it if you need it done to save your life. I was told I could die during the surgery...but that can happen with ANY surgery you have, no matter what type of surgery. Do this for you! I did it for several reasons:

1) I wanted to be healthier and to get rid of the pain in my back and joints.

2) I didn't like the way I looked.

3) I couldn't find any clothes I liked that would fit me.

4) My husband/kids/caregiver...in the event I became bedridden or wheelchair bound, the lighter I was the easier it would be on their bodies if they had to help me move around.

Here's to losing the rest of the weight I need to get off and a healthier rest of my life!

On this last day of 2019 I am very grateful for all the blessings I've
received over the last year. I've had heartaches, too, but those turned
in to blessings. The Lord has been awesome to my family and me this
year. As I enter 2020, I look forward to seeing what's in store.
Through both the good times and the rough times, I will make it because
Jesus is with me all the way!

for this season!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6205393584479447132.post-61071082391600982982019-12-11T02:54:00.000-08:002019-12-11T02:54:33.725-08:00I must be Wonder Woman...

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Bible teaches that the Lord gives us no more than we can handle. If that is the case, the Lord must think I'm Wonder Woman or some type of super human. The last month or so has really be chaotic around here, the details of which I will not go into here. If you want to compare this to the weather, there have been times when I have had just a few rain showers and other times when I've gone through either hurricanes or tornadoes. But after the storm blew through, the beautiful days have been glorious, and I am so grateful for the blessings I have received because of the bad storms.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I think of Job in the Old Testament and all the things Satan put him through trying to get him to denounce God. He lost his entire family and everything he owned. Even his friends told Job he must've done something terribly wrong against God and to repent. Not once did Job lose his faith in God, and because of this the Lord blessed him tremendously in the end. (NOTE: Please read the Book of Job for more details.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Though I know things have calmed down somewhat, I've still been busy getting ready for Christmas. Having a cold doesn't help matter things any, plus having several orders I need to get out in time for holiday deliveries.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Just remember, if things get hectic and you don't think you can take anymore, you've got help with the Lord! All you have to do is ask.

Nikon D5600 DSLR

Well, I finally got to order my new camera, which should arrive tomorrow. I ordered a Nikon D5600 from Amazon and several accessories, including 3 different size lenses, filters, lens hoods, and a vertical battery grip with extra batteries. I am so looking forward to "playing" around with my new toy.

I am more familiar with the Canon SLR (I own a Canon T70 which is 35mm camera), so the Nikon is new to me. Why did I go with Nikon instead of Canon? After doing a lot of research and comparisons, I decided to give Nikon a try. The Canon I compared the D5600 with was the T7i, which seems to be a really great camera itself. There didn't seem to be that much of a difference between the T7i and the D5600; however, the deciding factor for me was mainly the price. Nikon was less expensive than Canon. Plus, I have a couple of friends who are professional photographers who use Nikon cameras and I know they will help me with learning all I need to know.

As soon as I can, I will update you on my analysis of the Nikon.

Though I’ve
been into photography since 1966 when I received my very first camera, a Kodak Instamatic
X-15, I have over time realized that I really don’t know as much about cameras and taking great pictures as I would like. I love taking all types of pictures, especially outdoor pictures. Nature offers such a vast array of subjects just waiting to be photographed. Over the years, I have gone from the above Kodak camera to a Canon T70 35mm to a Sony Digital point-and-shoot. Each camera has been used quite a bit and I love each one. The sad part is film for the Kodak Instamatic is no longer made that I am aware of. It used a drop-in type of 35mm film.

The Canon T70 uses 35mm film on a roll, which I can still find. The downside of 35mm is having to take it some place, such as Walmart, to be developed. We recently added a few new designs to our Etsy store, A Family Affair Boutique, and are working on some more to add soon. If you don't see something you're looking for, just ask and we'll see what we can do to help. We are also hoping to soon add handmade lanyards and keyfobs to the store. We are working on getting pictures made to upload.

I'm still working on getting pictures ready to upload to Sharry's Place. These pictures include my adventures at The ScareFest convention this past September, as well as some odds and ends I've taken. Next year's convention will be October 23-25; if you like horror and paranormal conventions, be sure to check out their website often for guest announcements, hotel reservations and to purchase your tickets.

The next convention I will be attending will be the Lexington Comic & Toy Convention, which will be the weekend of March 26-29, 2020, at the Lexington Convention Center. They have a great lineup of guests so far with more to be announced. Tickets are on sale now, as well as the opportunity to make hotel reservations.

One last thing for now...I will eventually "upgrade" my camera equipment to include a Nikon D5600. I am working on saving the money for it and doing a lot of research, and will post updates as I go.

The 2019 ScareFest Convention is now in the history books, and I must say it was another great one. Though there were a few stars who had to cancel for one reason or another, there were still oodles of great stars to meet. The "headliner" was Bruce Campbell who was the star of the Evil Dead movies. He is also the latest host of Ripley's Believe It or Not. I will be posting pictures soon of the convention to my photography website, Sharry's Place. I hope you will come back to see when these pictures will be uploaded.

Dates for next year's ScareFest are October 23-25, 2020, at the Lexington Convention Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The management is in the process of working with local hotels in setting aside blocks of rooms for convention goers. If you would like to keep up with when these rooms will be available or just to keep up with any and all info about ScareFest, you can visit their website, www.thescarefest.com.

This is it...ScareFest has arrived. This is my first year (and maybe my last, but more about that later) as a volunteer. I arrived at my hotel around noon yesterday and lounged around in both my room and the lobby. Got a big hug from actor/stunt man Kane Hodder, who is known as the only actor to have played "Jason Voorhies" in four of the Friday the 13th movies.

Last evening there was a mandatory meeting of all the volunteers with the owners of the convention, Brandon and Nicole Griffith. They not only welcomed/thanked the volunteers for helping, but made a few announcements concerning what was expected and safety rules. The volunteers then split off into groups depending on what area they were going to "work" and took a "walk through" of the convention floor and what they would be doing in their area. It was definitely an experience to get a first hand look at some of the stuff that goes on behind the scenes of putting on a convention. I cannot imagine what headaches the Griffiths and their chief of operations, Layla Cook, have to go through all year long to put on such a top-notch convention.

As to whether or not this will be my one and only time as a volunteer, that is up on the air right now. Over the last several years I have been granted media passes and have taken pictures for my photography website, Sharry's Place. Since a lot of my time this year will be in the information booth, I won't get to roam the convention floor as much as I usually do. This has led to withdrawals. :-) It is my hope that I will get to talk with Layla about what I can do as a volunteer but still be able to be out on the floor most of my time here in order to take pictures. I'm not sure if there is a position open for that and if not, I'll probably go back to media passes and not volunteer. As they say...live and learn. Please don't get me wrong, I am NOT knocking this convention or the volunteers; some people aren't cut out to be volunteers. I most definitely have the utmost respect for all the volunteers as they have gone out of their way to help pull off a fantastic convention every year.

If you can't make it to this year's ScareFest, we invite you to keep an eye open on their website, www.thescarefest.com, for information on next year's convention. You will most definitely have a fun weekend.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This time next week I will be packing my suitcase to attend the annual ScareFest convention, which is being held in the Convention Center in Lexington, Kentucky. This will be my 9th year attending and my 1st year working as a volunteer. I am looking forward to seeing friends I have made over the years and get to see only at the convention. I love this convention because of the family atmosphere and the effort the owners/managers put forth to make it such a fan-friendly convention.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For those of you who have never heard of ScareFest, it is dedicated to horror fandom and Halloween with some paranormal thrown in. This year's convention runs from September 13-15, and includes stars from movies and shows such Friday the 13th, Game of Thrones, Evil Dead, Face Off, Tales from the Crypt and Six Million Dollar Man. These are just a few of the movies/shows represented. Some of the stars who will be there include Kane Hodder, Sid Haig, Lee Majors, Bruce Campbell, Felissa Rose, John Kassier, Ted Raimi, Vee Neill (a 3-time Acadamy Award winning makeup artist), Ryan Hurst, R.A. Mihailoff and Hafthor Bjornsson (world's strongest man).

The material I'm working with include sugar skulls, Disney's Nightmare Before Christmas and flames. Hopefully I'll have time to make key fobs to take with me. Several people have already bought some and I was asked to bring more to sell.
